100 Best Computer Animated Movies

A quick disclaimer, this list was made by Rotten Tomatoes. Regardless, I’m sure you’ll agree that the films on this list deserve to be there. I can’t say for sure that you’ll agree with the order. Be that as it may, it might still do you good to take a look. You might find something that you haven’t seen before, or haven’t seen in a while and want to watch again.

Don’t Let Your PC Stop You

Once again our friends at Arts Supremo want to keep you from looking for excuses to hold yourself back. In this video, they tackle the common concern about hardware limitations in regards to getting started in 3D. They clarify what you should be doing as a begginner and how having a less powerful computer at the start may actually help you in the long run. If you’re using your PC as a reason for not starting to learn 3D, check out this video.

Get Paid For 3D

Some people get into 3D for the joy of creating. Some do it for the cash. In this video, Arts Supremo gives a list of 3D skills that have (in their opinion at least) the highest earning potential. If you’re getting started in 3D and wondering what would be good to focus on in order to make a living, this is a good place to start.

Possibly The Best Beginner Blender Tutorial

Finding this tutorial from Brad’s Art School was the best way I could have started working with Blender (outside of an actual class). Brad covers the basic user interface, controls, and more in a simple and entertaining way. If you follow along with the project in the video, you will learn modeling, lighting, and keyboard shortcuts (among other things). This tutorial is a great introduction to Blender for anyone looking for a quick, fun way to get started.

Thruster Tutorial

Maybe making a decent looking 3D animated jet/engine thruster is easy for you. It definitely was not for me. However, after searching for a while I was able to find this video. In less time than it took me to find the video, I was able to make the perfect thruster for my project. Thank you Faebe Tutorials for sharing your knowledge.

Octopus Rigging Tutorial

Deciding to create an octopus alien for my project was starting to seem like a mistake. Then I found this tutorial, and it saved me. You don’t have to follow everything in this video, but the rigging sections will be very helpful to you if you are trying to create something more than a standard humanoid. Inverse kinematics can be tricky, but this tutorial may make it a bit easier for you.

Amazon, AI, and Anime

Recently, Amazon decided to add fuel to the fire that is the debate over proper use of AI by rolling out a beta of a new AI program that creates dubs for anime. In yet another move by a major corporation to cut corners (and human jobs), this time the target was live voice actors. As expected, this was not a popular move, and many voiced their concerns. This article talks about the trial run of this program, its horrible dub job, and the responses Amazon received.

Faster Rendering in Blender

I made a rather significant (for me) investment in a new PC when I started learning Blender. I wanted to make sure I could practice and work on any projects without having to either travel to campus to use the classroom machines or deal with hours-long render times on my existing PC. So I was really frustrated that my render times went from 4-5 seconds a frame to 20 minutes as I started adding elements to my scene(s). Thanks to this tutorial by CGMAtter, I was able to reign in those render times back to acceptable levels.

Artist Ditches Adobe For Blender

I would think that most, if not all, people who create digital content know the firm hold that Adobe has on the industry. The cost of Adobe’s software (and lack of purchase options) is also well known. Many people have chosen (or been forced) to seek free or low-cost alternatives such as GIMP, Krita, and Audacity. Others have found software that fills multiple roles in one package. In this article, Nolen Jonker discusses his experience and reasons for moving away from Adobe to Blender.

Graphics vs Gameplay

Recently there was a reported leak of the budget for Pokemon Legends: Z-A. The numbers are comparatively low compared to other games and raise lots of questions for game studios and consumers. While some AAA game developers insist on going bigger on graphics, they risk the associated costs becoming a potentially deadly loss if the games are not successful. This article by Patricia Hernandez discusses the budget leak, how the numbers compare, and what it implies about the state of modern video game development and consumer sentiment.
